Teletherapy Team Approach

COVID-19 has changed a lot of our daily routine, including the way we do speech and language therapy at TALK. Not only did we switch over to teletherapy, but we also changed our data tracking and collaboration systems so that families receive our unique, team-based approach virtually. It has been a tech-filled learning journey for us all!

Our team-based approach promotes generalization of skills for your child. We want children to learn new skills with more than one person and in more than one way so that they are able to show everyone what they can do across environments! Our team approach also allows for collaboration amongst the staff to ensure creativity and growth.

To form a team, each child is assigned a lead director, a lead therapist, and an alternate therapist. The lead director oversees the treatment plans and progress of each child. The lead therapist develops the therapy plans and manages your child’s progress. And the alternate therapist carries out the plan as developed by the lead therapist. This requires consistent communication between all staff members.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, TALK is using TheraPlatform, a teletherapy system that allows each child to be assigned more than one therapist. It also enables the sharing of data, treatment plans, and client notes between therapists and families.

By using a variety of different communication platforms (e.g., TheraPlatform, Google, Zoom, and Slack), TALK feels just as connected about your kids as before! We input data, monitor progress, and share goals with the team as if we were physically in the clinic. These systems help us continue our team-based approach and collaboration as we all strive to stay connected. 

We look forward to seeing all our children and families physically in the clinic in the future.
