Show and Tell

The last few months have been an interesting time for us all. Teletherapy was an adjustment for both our therapists and our families, but it has also provided us with many unexpected benefits. One of those benefits is discovering new language activities that children can participate in online.

Show and Tell has proven to be a super effective and fun way to work on a variety of skills. Our kids love showing us around their homes! Clients have shown us their rooms, pets, artwork, refrigerators, and favorite hiding spots – all things that would have been impossible without teletherapy!

Show and Tell is used in schools and homes across the world as a great activity for boosting language and social skills. This activity helps build strong expressive and receptive language skills that are essential for learning.

For kids to effectively Show and Tell, they have to use:

  • correct speech-sounds

  • vocabulary

  • grammar

  • descriptions

  • story sequencing

  • appropriate eye contact

  • interpret the listener’s nonverbal cues

  • answer questions about the object they are showing

On the listening side of Show and Tell, kids have to use:

  • good turn-taking

  • understand the language and grammar

  • recognize sequence of events that the therapist is using

Show and Tell has given our therapists an exciting new way to work on tons of skills at the same time. And, it works with kids of nearly every age. Our little ones have enjoyed it as much as our high schoolers! Show and Tell around the house is one more tool we have added to our toolbox to make teletherapy as fun and effective as in clinic sessions.
