All About Reading Groups!

Read all about it! TALK has a new reading group! We are excited to announce our new PreK/Kindergarten group that focuses on early phonological awareness skills.

Parents often think that reading begins with learning to sound out letters, but most young kids are getting ready to read far earlier before they understand that letters stand for sounds (phonological awareness). Why is intervention for these skills so important at an early age? Our therapists continue to emphasize to families that in the early stages of reading, “phonological awareness is the strongest predictor of reading progress” (Stanovich, 1986). Intervention is crucial for success!

Building reading skills starts with word play and who doesn’t like to play?! Songs, rhymes, games, and other fun activities are some of the ways we introduce and teach the development of these pre-literacy skills. Our team explores and implements various strategies, including visual, tactile, auditory, and kinesthetic approaches to improve the awareness of how sounds are put together to form words.

Read our previous blog posts about our reading groups and the importance of phonological awareness from an early age! We have multiple reading groups for various skill levels and are continuing to expand our groups at TALK. We want our clients to be prepared to develop throughout early childhood and primary school to help with reading and spelling success! Want to get more information?
